Description
Founded August 1, 1991, the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra is the largest arts group in Irving. The Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) presents a season of six subscription concerts annually at the Irving Arts Center under the baton of Music Director Robert Carter Austin. The ensemble’s professional musicians are chosen by competitive auditions from hundreds of applicants each year.
The LCSO’s inaugural season, titled “Symphonic Fantasies”, opened with a gala pops concert featuring famed guitarist Chet Atkins. Over six hundred area concert-goers were in attendance, giving the Orchestra the largest 1991 opening night audience of any Irving arts group. Subsequent seasons have seen a steady increase in the number of season subscribers to, and single ticket sales for, the LCSO’s concerts, which culminated in the highest attendance level for any Irving Arts group during the 2000-2001 season.
The LCSO has performed Youth Concerts for elementary school children since the mid 1990’s.
In 1999, the LCSO founded the Lone Star Youth Orchestra, a full symphonic orchestra made up of middle school and high school students. The Lone Star Youth Orchestra primarily draws its students from Irving and surrounding communities, but it also includes students from many other areas throughout the Metroplex.
